Donoratico greets Colombia Coldeportes’ debut
After weeks of training and big expectations, GP Costa degli Etruschi in Donoratico, Italy, welcomed Colombia Coldeportes into pro cycling peloton. The ten riders of Claudio Corti’s line-up could finally taste the race atmosphere in Italy, after starting to get used to the lifestyle in their first 15 days spent in the Country where they will live throughout the whole season.
Donoratico’s race definitely wasn’t a great fit for the characteristics of the Escarabajos, particularly after cold and snow in the last few days forced the organizers to cut out the few difficulties from the original route, reduced to a 168,5 km distance. In addition, the ice cold wind blowing on the circuit made things difficult in this season debut.
Today’s win went to Elia Viviani (Liquigas-Cannondale) doubling last year’s success ahead of Sacha Modolo (Colnago-CSF) and Filippo Baggio (Utensilnord-Named). Federico Rocchetti, Alessandro De Marchi and Davide Ricci Bitti were big protagonists of this race too, after escaping at km 14 and staying clear until very late in the race.
“The guys did well, it was good to see – Sports Director Valerio Tebaldi said after finish – they managed to race as a close-knit group. We lack some pace rhythm, but we knew that, it is pretty normal at this stage. Forero wasn’t feeling at his best today, he still needs to find his best shots when speed gets over 50 km/h. But they will come, with time and kilometres. “
“From Monday, we will focus on new training programmes, set up with Team Doctor Massimiliano Mantovani: they will help us to improve our shape and find the right rhythm. And when it will come to races that fit our qualities, I am confident we will hold our own,” Tebaldi stated.
